Don't forget, all boats must be off the lake by 10/31/2020!

Green Valley Lake Dam Repair & Renovation Project

The GVMWC has issued contracts for a leak repair and renovation of the Green Valley Lake Dam which will begin approximately September 14, 2020 and is expected to be completed in 8 to 10 weeks providing there are no lengthy weather delays. Due to the nature of the repairs the walkway across the dam will be closed for the duration of the project.

The leak repair and renovation are requirements of the California Department of Water Resources, Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD). Although the dam is inspected annually by the DSOD and the annual safety reports confirm the dam is safe, the DSOD has recommended that GVMWC commence a maintenance and renovation program that will ultimately enhance the longevity of the dam and ensure the long term safety of the dam in the future.

The GVMWC Board of Directors feel the timing is good to undertake such a project as the issues with COVID 19 have restricted the normal recreation activities of the lake. Therefore, the inconvenience of the closure of the dam at this time will be less interruptive than if the project were to take place in the future when COVID 19 restrictions could be lifted. In addition, the Board of Directors realize the importance of maintaining the access across the dam for generations to come as this is a valuable asset to the Shareholders of the GVMWC.

The repairs and renovations do not require the lake to be drained. The work will take place from a work platform on a barge on the lake side and scaffolding and swing stage on the canyon side of the dam. This will be a slow and tedious process as access to the repair areas of the dam is limited. Although this work does not require welding or any other type of procedures that could cause a fire, the contractor will be mobilizing a fire suppression unit for the duration of the project as an additional safety measure.

The safety of lake users, shareholders and the workers are of the highest priority so we ask that you maintain a safe distance from the work if you are on the water surface and to please not interrupt the crews who are working on the dam.

Should the shareholders of GVMWC have any questions or concerns regarding the project, you may contact Steve Brandt during normal business hours at (909) 867-2912.

It is clear that all guidelines concerning Coronavirus released by our local, state, and federal agencies, including the California Department of Public Health, the CDC, and San Bernardino Department of Public Health, advise against large gatherings in an effort to reduce the spread of the virus. For that reason, GVL Recreation has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Water Carnival. While we know this is disappointing, we hope you can understand the steps we are taking to help keep our staff and community safe.

Due to the everchanging circumstances involving the novel coronavirus, the day to day operations of the lake are subject to change without notice.

The updated activities currently available at the lake are:

Boat Rentals

  • Row Boats

  • Pedal Boats

  • Duck and Swan Pedal Boats

  • Kayaks

Thank you to everyone who has supported and continues to support the lake during these uncertain times. We greatly appreciate it!
