Licenses can be obtained at: 2) The possession of an unexpired GVL RECREATION, INC. fishing pass. Fishing passes can be obtained from Lake Staff around the Lake or at the Boat House. Persons 15 years or younger only need an unexpired GVL RECREATION, INC. fishing pass. Fishing passes can be obtained from Lake Staff around the Lake or at the Boat House.
  • Where can I purchase a GVL RECREATION, INC. fishing pass?
You can pay all fees to Lake Staff around the Lake or at the Boat House located on 33180 Green Valley Lake Rd, Green Valley Lake, CA 92341.
  • Can I pay online?
Unfortunately, GVL RECREATION, INC. is unable to accept online payments at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.
  • What type of fish can I catch and how many?
The Lake limit for fish species are as follows: The trout limit is five (5) fish per day per person. The Crappie limit is twenty-five (25) fish per day per person. Bass are catch and release only. Each fisherperson must have their own individual stringer, with no more than five trout attached. “Catch and release” fishing is allowed with lures only. No “catch and release” when using bait.
  • Am I allowed to use more than one fishing pole?
According to the 2023-2024 edition of the California Freshwater Sport Fishing Regulation Booklet, "Except as otherwise authorized, all fish may be taken only by angling with one closely attended rod and line or one hand line with not more than three hooks nor more than three artificial lures (each lure may have three hooks attached) attached thereto. Anglers in possession of a valid two-rod stamp and anglers under 16 years of age may use up to two rods in inland waters which regulations provide for the taking of fish by angling, except those waters in which only artificial lures or barbless hooks may be used. See Trout, Salmon and Special Regulations for exceptions." You can find the Booklet in PDF format here:
  • Are there any places I'm not allowed to fish from?
Yes and thank you for asking! To ensure public safety, there are certain areas people are not allowed to fish from. Those places include: The Dam From the Boat Launch area to the Dog Beach The Swimming area, including from a boat into the Swimming area
  • Is there anywhere I can clean my fish?
Yes! We have a fish-cleaning station at the Boat House located on 33180 Green Valley Lake Rd, Green Valley Lake, CA 92341. Please do not clean your fish in the Lake!
  • Am I allowed to BBQ from my car or shore when I'm fishing?
NO! BBQs are a touchy subject; nonetheless, they are not allowed on Green Valley Mutual Water Company property or GVL RECREATION, INC. property, nor any open fire. Emergency services may be called if any person is caught violating this rule. So, please plan accordingly and prepare food ahead of time, there are many trash receptacles around the Lake for your convenience. Or try one of the many local restaurants in our Mountain Communities before ascending to Green Valley Lake, as Green Valley Lake has limited options for food in town. More options become available in GVL in the midst of summer. You can find a directory of local Mountain Business here:
  • Can I have my dog(s) with me while fishing?
Yes! Dogs are most welcome at GVL RECREATION, INC. but since not everyone is comfortable with dogs and per San Bernardino County code, it is our policy that all dogs must be on a 6 foot or shorter leash and we reserve the right to request that a dog be muzzled. Also, dogs are only allowed in the water at the designated “Dog Beach” area to ensure a better fishing and boating experience for all people using the Lake.
  • Is there anywhere local I can get fishing supplies?
Yes! Fishing tackle, bait and supplies are available from local Green Valley Lake merchants, but stock may be limited. It would be best to call these local GVL merchants ahead to time to plan appropriately.
  • If I don't catch any fish, can I get a refund?
Unfortunately we do not offer refunds for inability to catch fish. We may offer a refund if the fishing pass was purchased within the hour, but this will be at the Lake Manager's discretion. We hope you understand.
